Restaurant Granja Elena

Granja Elena is a Barcelona institution and a temple of traditional Catalan cooking. Opened in 1974 as a dairy and delicatessen, it's now run by the third generation of the Sierra family: chef Borja, sommelier Patricia, and Guillermo in the dining room.

The kitchen is celebrated for its "neighbourhood haute cuisine" — classic Catalan dishes executed with precision. Borja Sierra is famous for his slow-cooked spoon dishes and offal, especially the capipota and tripe (a favourite of the Disfrutar team). The menu changes with the seasons, showcasing local produce, game, and seafood.

Patricia curates an impressive wine list and was named Head of House by the Catalan Academy of Gastronomy in 2026. Open only for breakfast and lunch, the tiny 28-seat space is beloved for its substantial "fork breakfasts" and authentic local vibe.

Granja Elena is one of the most authentic breakfast spots in Barcelona. The product quality is great, the cooking is honest, and the atmosphere is genuinely local. I particularly enjoy their sandwiches and traditional Catalan dishes.

For breakfast, Granja Elena is my top recommendation. They serve excellent sandwiches, classic Catalan stews, and a remarkable wine list — particularly the sherries
